He was our neighbor when we first moved to the house in Wheaton, IL a very long time ago. I was on holiday, visiting from out of town when I tried to see him the other night, so you can imagine my shock to find that for the first time ever, he was not there. The house was vacant but the lights were on with curtains open as if to highlight the emptiness and there was a for sale sign on the lawn. Honestly, I wasn’t completely surprised. He was quite elderly, not in the best of health and before arriving at his house I looked him up on the internet. It was an obituary that read: Gordon Blume, born April 22, 1917 and passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2011. Gordon was a resident of Wheaton, IL So I knew he was gone before stopping by but I had to stop anyway and see the house where he had lived for so long.
